Male/Female Life Drawing - Emotion in Posture and Pose

In this drawing above you can clearly see emotion. The emotion that is shown in the drawing is sadness or depression. You can see this by the positioning of the model and the way the model is slumped over with one arm leaning on the knee. A main part of the drawing which suggests the emotion is the placement of the head. In this instance the head is facing downwards. I was not including any facial features so the emotion had to be very clear when drawing the model through the way she was sat.

The posture of the model is shown very clearly. You can tell that the model's back is curved as she is leaning over.  This is the main foundation of the other movements of the body. In this drawing I have left in the rough outlines to show the process and mistakes made. The model was sat down; I feel it was easier to show this kind of emotion rather than if she was stood up. Trying to create balance and weight was easier in some places than in others. There are much stronger lines where the arm and leg meet; this was to show that the model was leaning over.

Overall this was a good drawing to do because I had to really look at the placement of the model and portray the expression and feeling through how she was sat. I made a few mistakes regarding placement of the head and arm but I amended these mistakes to create a powerful drawing.
