Female Life Drawing - Posture and Pose

'Posture' is balance and weight and 'Pose' is all to do with gesture. These are very important aspects of a drawing. Posture and pose are shown in many different ways in this drawing; shading and the position of the shoulders, back and legs. In this drawing I feel I have shown the skin of the model as grounded to the Muscles and Skeleton. I tried to make the body look supported and balanced. As well as it being supported I tried to add weight to the scene. This was done by adding different strengths of shading as well as the different strength of the lines. The lighting in the scene you can see is coming from right to left which can been seen on the body and also on the table.

I tried to make the table look grounded to set the foundation of the drawing by adding creases in the cloth. A big focus of the drawing were the shoulders of the model. The shoulders show a very strong pose and suggest movement of muscles and skeleton which was very important.

Overall I was very pleased with this drawing and I think it has captured posture and pose very well. The pose was very strong and I think I had chosen a good position to sit when drawing this resulting in the striking angle of shoulders.

Male Life Drawing - Muscular Anatomy

In the drawing above I have tried to show some of the muscles in the male anatomy. The model was skinny so it was hard to show muscles but I feel in the back and arms I have shown some basic but effective lines and shading displaying these features. Some features which show some muscle form are the arms. The shape of the arms are very clear showing that the top half of the arm is bigger than the bottom half. The pose that the model was in made it possible to see the muscles in the back clearly. This was because the arms were placed behind the torso.

In this drawing I used a graphic pencil because it was easier to capture the different shades and muscles. I have tried to show how the movements of the model affect the different skeletal muscles, which can been seen on the left arm. I have tried to make the left arm tense by adding shading and stretching. I used strong lines because it was the most effective way to show the muscles.

Overall I have shown skeletal muscles using shading and strong lines. Even though the model was tricky to draw because he had a small frame, the pose was very good for showing basic muscles.

Female Life Drawing - Anatomy

I have drawn the basic anatomy of a female model. I have tried to capture the female form as observed as clearly as possible. I have shown muscle, fat and movement as best I could. I have also added basic shading. For the outline of the model's body I wanted to show the curves as clearly as possible. I feel I have done this in many different places. Some examples of these areas are legs, stomach and shoulders.

The outline of her body is very strong in certain parts as my intention was to draw attention to certain features. These were legs, arms and stomach. I have done interior lines to find the placement of different bones like the shoulders. This helped me to learn the basic anatomy which I could later use in other drawings. Some of the lines that I have drawn show how relaxed or tense the muscles are in the model's body.

Overall the drawing was interesting because I learnt the structure of the body and applied it into my drawing. I am able to learn new skills and improve on the ones I already have. I think the whole drawing could be improved by adding more detail to the drawing like muscles and facial features and developing a better understanding of drawing in proportion.
